HISTORY OF BONHAM ELEMENTARY

"Education is the force, Bonham is the source!"
By Belma Delgado

Bonham School opened in September 1968, with only twelve classrooms. In February 1979, Bonham divided its students and faculty with the newly constructed Jose de Escandon School. A cafetorium was completed that year also. At the end of the 1980 spring semester, Bonham again divided its students and faculty with the new Roosevelt School and became a primary school housing grades pre-kindergarten through third. Students in grades four and five attended Escandon. In September 1988, boundaries were rezoned and Bonham added grades four and five. At the present there are twenty-eight classrooms plus auxiliary offices and special use rooms in the main building. The number of portable buildings on the Bonham campus changes each year with student enrollment and program needs.
