Staples Foundation for Learning |
Staples Foundation for Learning has contributed to hundreds of nonprofit groups across the nation since it was founded in 2002 that help it accomplish its mission to teach, train and inspire people from all walks of life by providing educational and growth opportunities.
Nonprofits with 501(c)(3) certificates are eligible to apply.
The requested amount of each grant can be up to $25,000. Most grants awarded by the Foundation are in the $5,000-$25,000 range.
In 2007, online applications should be completed by April 6th for consideration at the May Board of Directors meeting, by August 3, 2007 for the September meeting, or by December 7th for the January 2008 meeting.

Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year Awards |

The Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year Awards recognize exceptional classroom social studies teachers for grades K-6, 5-8, and 7-12 who teach social studies regularly and systematically in elementary, and at least half time in middle or junior high, and high school settings.
Social studies teachers for grades K-6, 5-8, and 7-12 who teach social studies regularly and systematically in elementary school settings, and at least half time in middle/junior high and high school settings are eligible recipients. Anyone can nominate a teacher; self-nominations are permissible.
The winning teacher will receive a $2,500 cash award, a commemorative gift a complimentary one-year NCSSm.
Nominations must be made by APRIL 1, 2007.

MarcoPolo State and School District Professional Development |
Funding Source - MCI WorldCom Foundation
Funds Available - On-site training at no cost to district.
Eligibility - School districts with training facilities or consortia of school districts.
Scope - To provide on-site professional development for K-12 teacher in the use of Internet Content for the Classroom based on materials developed by the MarcoPolo partnership. To train lead teacher trainers throughout the country to help all K-12 teacher integrate the Internet into their classrooms. Seminars are taught by professionally trained Internet education specialists and copies of the MarcoPolo Teacher Training Kit which consists of a trainer’s guide, CD-ROM, mouse pad, and a classroom poster.

Literacy Grants |
Funding Source - Starbucks Foundation
Funds Available - Range: $1,000- $10,000
Eligibility - 501(c)(3) or other tax-exempt organizations
Scope - Literacy in the following areas:
- Children (0-5) and Families
- Tutor/Mentor Promotion
- Writing Programs for Older Youth (12-21).
The literacy grant program’s Mini Grants ($1,000) are sponsored by Starbucks partners (employees) who link with literacy programs in their communities (applications available from local Starbucks stores or from regional marketing offices).
The program’s Opportunity Grants (up to $10,000) are focused on the three areas listed above and require engagement with Starbucks resources (partners, stores, customers) at the local level (organizations invited to develop a Concept paper.

Funds Available - Grants vary in size
Eligibility - 501(c)(3) or 509(a) IRS tax-exempt status. If regional in scope, should apply through the Cingular Wireless office in their region. National in scope should apply to the office in Atlanta Georgia.
Scope - Projects should convincingly address self-expression through human needs, arts or education; inspire creativity in youths; stimulate partnerships among organizations; offer well-defined goals and an evaluation plan

Funds Available - $50,000-$200,000
Eligibility - Dependent on the grant/scholarship
Scope - Most grant funds given to organizations to combat the impact of extreme poverty. Activities supported by grants must be educational, charitable or scientific. The Foundation directs its support to activities that are within its current interests and are likely to have wide effect. Opportunities that prospective grantee organizations provide for minorities and women are considered in evaluating proposals.

Scope - Grants support the purchase of instruments, learning, practice, or performance space, and instructors. Particularly interested in programs that foster self-esteem and free expression and benefit disenfranchised groups (at-risk). Full proposals by invitation only. Letter of inquiry.
