Physh Ed Grants

The Future Fisherman Foundation (F3), the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF), and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) are requesting proposals for the 2007/2008 school year under the Physh Ed National Fishing and Boating Education Grants Initiative. Proposals must incorporate quality, viable fishing and boating programs into curriculum-based K-12 physical education classes during school hours. The main overall objectives must emphasize the relationship between fishing/boating and lifetime physical/mental health.

Physical education teachers at the K-12 level in public, private and charter schools are eligible and encouraged to apply for grant funding.

Grant funds are awarded up to a total of $5,000.

The deadline for submission of applications is 5:00 PM on March 2, 2007.

Heads Up: The Big Read Grant Program

The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, is designed to restore reading to the center of American culture by bringing together partners across the country to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment.
Colleges and universities are eligible to apply to The Big Read. School districts, high schools, and middle schools are encouraged as community partners, but they are not eligible applicants.

Approximately 160 organizations in communities of varying sizes in all 50 states will be selected through two selection cycles to participate in The Big Read in 2007. The minimum grant amount is $5,000. Matching grants of up to $20,000 may be available through the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Guidelines and an RFP will available in February 2007.

Innovating Worthy Projects Foundation

Innovating Worthy Projects Foundation was founded to provide financial grants for structuring, developing or modifying special-needs children’s programs of organizations recognized as charities by the US Internal Revenue Service.

All applicant institutions must be qualified for exemption under Section 501(c )(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. An agency or entity applying for funding must state whether it is a member of any branch of the Federal, or any State, County or local Municipal government.

The Foundation accepts grant requests over $5,000 from January 1 through August 31 of each year. Grant requests for less than $5,000 may be submitted at any time. Final action on grant requests usually occurs at the Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees, held each January.

2007 Mantis Awards

Mantis sponsors this award program in support of charitable and educational garden programs that enhance the quality of life in their host communities. NGA will select 25 gardens to receive a Mantis Tiller/Cultivator. Outdoor Classroom Grant Program

Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation, International Paper, and National Geographic Explorer! classroom magazine have partnered to create an outdoor classroom grant. The goal is to provide schools with additional resources to improve their science curriculum by engaging students in hands-on experiences outside the traditional classroom. Learning in the Arts for Children and Youth

The National Endowment for the Arts is committed to providing leadership in arts education by inspiring all young Americans through rich arts experiences. A high quality education in the arts opens a critical gateway to a lifetime of appreciation and engagement. For two reasons, learning in the arts is an indispensable part of American education: children celebrate and participate in their cultural inheritance, and academic and social maturity follow directly from arts education experiences.

The Learning in the Arts for Children and Youth category offers funding for projects that help children and youth acquire knowledge and understanding of and skills in the arts. Projects must provide participatory learning and engage students with skilled artists, teachers, and excellent art. Maximum Grant Size: $150,000

RGK Foundation

The RGK Foundation funds innovative projects in the areas of health, education, human services and community affairs. The Foundation’s primary interests within Education include programs that focus on formal K-12 education (particularly mathematics, science and reading), teacher development, literacy, and higher education.

Grants are made only to nonprofit organizations certified as tax exempt under Sections 501 ©(3) or 170© of the Internal Revenue Code and are classified as “not a private foundation” under Section 509 (a). Hospitals, educational institutions, and governmental institutions meetings these requirements are eligible to apply. There are no geographic restrictions to the Foundation’s grantmaking program.

Most grant awards are for $25,000 or less.

There are no deadlines for submission of letters of inquiry. All applications must complete an electronic Letter of Inquiry from the Web site as the first step. RGK Foundation will entertain one electronic Letter of Inquiry (LOI) per organization in a twelve-month period.
