The American Electric Power (AEP) Corporate Giving Program supports nonprofit organizations in communities in AEP’s service territory. Funding is provided in such areas as education (preference is given to grades Pre-K-12 in the fields of math, science, and technology); and human services (hunger, housing, health and safety).

Eligible applicants: Nonprofit organizations in Texas, this includes Corpus Christi, Laredo, Victoria, McAllen, Abilene, San Angelo and Longview.

Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

Each year, the President of the United States recognizes outstanding kindergarten-6th grade or 7th-12th grade mathematics and science teachers by bestowing upon them the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). The more than 3,700 awardees selected since the program’s inception in 1983 are a premier group of highly qualified teachers who have both deep content knowledge of the subjects they teach and the ability to motivate and enable students to be successful in these areas.

Mathematics and science teachers for grades 7 through 12th are eligible for the award in 2007.

Up to 108 recipients will receive a citation signed by President Bush; an opportunity to join the dynamic network of awardees; a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation; a paid trip for two to Washington, DC, to attend a week-long series of recognition events and professional development opportunities, and gifts from sponsors of the program from around the country.

Nominations forms must be postmarked by May 1, 2007.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Enrichment and Accelerated Learning Programs for Children provides grants for programs that increase access to accelerated learning and enrichment programs for low-to moderate-income students ages 5 through 12 who have exceptional academic promise.

Nonprofit providers of accelerated learning or academic enrichment programs who have been invited to apply are eligible to submit proposals. If you have not received an invitation and you wish to apply for this grant, the Foundation requires that you first submit a letter of interest and receive an invitation.

Grants of between $100,000 and $600,000 total over a three-year period will be made.

Once you have received an invitation to participate in this proposal process, applications, along with the submission form, must be submitted to the foundation by June 1, 2007.

Payless ShoeSource Foundation

The Payless ShoeSource Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communities where Payless ShoeSource associates and customers live. Programs that will produce measurable results will be considered for support.

Grants are available only to organizations with IRS tax-exempt status in communities where Payless operates its corporate headquarters, division offices, retail stores, and/or sourcing operations.

Requests must be submitted in writing to the Payless ShoeSource Foundation at least 60 days prior to the date the grant is needed. Grants for over $5,000 are reviewed quarterly. Grant requests for under $5,000 are considered monthly.

Outdoor Classroom Grant Program

Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation, International Paper and National Geographic Explorer! Magazine have teamed up to create an outdoor classroom grant program. The program focus is to engage students in hands-on natural science experiences and allow enrichment opportunities across the core curriculum.

All K-12 public schools in the United States are welcome to apply.

This school year, the program will award grants up to $2,000 to at least 100 schools. In some cases, grants for up to $20,000 can be awarded to schools or school districts with major outdoor classroom projects.

Applications are reviewed three times each year. Deadlines are April 30, August 31, and December 31.
