History of  Sam Houston
Sam Houston opened its doors on August 15, 1996 at its current location (3221 Olga Ave.).  Previously, Sam Houston Elementary was located at 1001 S. 16th Street for approximately 50 years, where STCC Downtown is now.  The school is situated on 9.5 acres.  This facility of approximately 58,000 square feet features three wings which house a total of 29 classrooms, a library, a lab, a content mastery classroom, two reading recovery classrooms, two counselor offices, a music room, a parental involvement office, a workroom, storage room, a custodial office, and a multi-purpose room.

The name of the school is taken from Sam Houston (1793-1863) who fought for what he believed.  To learn more about Sam Houston and what he did, click here.

Sam Houston Elementary serves a population of approximately 665 students in grades PK-5.  There are approximately 55 staff members which includes teachers, support staff, office staff, custodial staff, and cafeteria staff.  We are part of the Memorial Vertical Team.  The majority of our students will be attending Brown M.S. and then Memorial H.S.

The school is involved in many educational initiatives including a Micro-Society called Houstonville U.S.A.
