COW Implementation Session during this session teachers experienced COW Best Practices, course taxonomy, and receive practical examples of daily lessons to use immediately in their classroom.

Principals and instructional services administrators participated in the Superintendent’s back-to-school kick off. The day’s training focused on wellness activities, emotional intelligence and true colors presentations.

The Texas Beginning Educator Support System (TxBESS) training of mentors is to provide systemic support for beginning teachers. The following topics were addressed:
- TxBESS Awareness
- Phases & Stages of Beginning Teacher Development
- Mentors & Beginning Teachers
- Coaching
- The TxBESS Framework

New teacher orientation for all new MISD professional staff was held on August 15, 2007. New teachers were introduced to district personnel, received a personnel/employee benefit overview, secured information from the various district department stations, and were provided a new teacher Curriculum Collaborative Overview.

The First Year Teacher Academy is a series of trainings to provide support, challenge, and inspire first year teachers to become competent, confident, and compassionate so that they make a positive difference for their students. Part I focused on The Effective Teacher, Getting ready for the First Days and Working with a Mentor.

Professional Development & Appraisal System training is a required training for all new teachers. The following topics were addressed:

- Explanation of the Teacher Self-Report form
- Explanation of the scoring procedures

Animals - Two by Two training on the FOSS Kit that includes 5 investigations to observe and describe the structure and behaviors of an organism then compare it to one that's similar.
