Departments After-School Recreation Program

The City of McAllen Parks and Recreation Department, in cooperation with the McAllen Independent School District, provides After-School Recreation Programs at various elementary schools throughout McAllen. These programs take place from 3:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on school days. Schools that are on the year round schedule will be programmed accordingly.

The program is funded in part by the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services Community Youth Development Program and the Community Development Block Grant Program. The After-School Recreation Program is not a licensed day-care program, or a substitute for parental supervision. Recreational activities for the children are designed to provide a safe, after-school environment, with organized games and leisure activities, to relax and enjoy leisure time.

Mission: It is the mission of the McAllen Parks and Recreation Department's After-School Recreation Program to provide wholesome and constructive recreation opportunities for elementary age children, in a safe and comfortable environment, while supporting the McAllen Independent School District's goal of providing quality education.
