Introduction

You and your buddies have wonthe  "Dig-Doers"  Contest! You have won a trip to travel around the world and investigate some very interesting animals.  The leader of the task will become the head paleontologist.  An Paleontologist is person who studies bones (fossils), leaves and rocks.  Your task will be to learn all the facts you can about D-I-N-O-S-A-U-R-S! Be careful on this dangerous journey.

It is also in this section that you'll communicate the Big Question (Essential Question, Guiding Question) that the whole WebQuest is centered around.
 
 


The Task
At the end of your exciting adventure you and your team will be able to write a report on your team's favorite dinosaur.  Your team will also do a project with a model of the dinosaur you chose, showing its habitat and eating habits.  Remember, you need to include many facts!

You will investigate the following:
 
What is a Dinosaur?

 

Pretend that your are one of the following:
 

Answer the following questions about Dinosaur:
 
  • What does it look like?
  • What does it eat?
  • Where did it live?
  • How did it defend itself from it's enemies?
  • Create a model of the Dinosaur that you have chosen showing it's habitat and what it eats.

    At the end of the Web Quest you will present the information about your favorite dinosaur and display your model.
     

    The Process
     

    1. Dinosaurs were very interesting creatures that roamed throughout world. There are different types of dinosaurs that shared similar characteristics.  Your team will have to investigate "What is a dinosaur?" and answer the questions below by organizing the dinosaur information.  (Click here for Graphic Organizer)
    1. Your team will choose their favorite dinosaur from the following list:
    1. After your team has chosen their favorite dinosaur, use your graphic organizer to answer the following questions:
      1. What does it look like?

      2. (Write a short paragraph describing what the dinosaur looks like and draw a picture.)
      3. What does it eat?

      4. (Make a collage by using magazine pictures showing the types of food your dinosaur eats.)
      5. Where did it live?

      6. (In your drawing from question #1, include details showing the dinosaur's habitat.)
    2. Create your dinosaur model with your team by using clay, twigs, paint, and any other materials you wish.  (Ask your teacher for additional materials.)
    3. After you have finished with all the tasks, your team will present the model created and share information found about your favorite dinosaur.


    Evaluation

    You and your team must finish all the required tasks before presenting to the class.  You will be graded based on the following rubric:

    Conclusion

    You have now finished your journey to the exciting world of dinosaurs!!  You have learned about the different kinds of dinosaurs and their characteristics.  Maybe some of you would now like to become a paleontologist.  Thanks for trying your best.
