Reading Recovery

My name is Jana Wirth and I am the Reading Recovery teacher at Zavala  Elementary. I am currently serving four students. The other half of the day I am coaching teachers for  Stepping Into Literacy (Pre-K) and Balanced Literacy (K-3).

What is Reading Recovery?
Reading Recovery is  an early intervention program designed to asist the lowest achieving children in first grade who are having difficulty learning t o read and write. Children meet individually with a specially trained teacher for 30 minutes each day for an average of 12-20 weeks. The goal is for the children to develop effective reading and writing strategies.During this relatively short-term intervention, these children make faster than average progress so that they can catch up with their peers, or "recover" the ground they were lagging behind in, and continue to work on their own within an average group setting in the regular classroom.--Reading Recovery Review
