New Student Registration-- please bring the
following 4 things with you when registering your child anytime during
the school year.
Birth Certificate
Social Security Number
Immunization Records
Last Report Card (if previously enrolled in another school
)
School Hours--The Zavala Elementary school
day begins at 7:45 a.m. for Pre-Kinder and 7:50 a.m. for Kindergarten through
5th grades. The school day ends at 3:00 p.m. Students are tardy after
8 o'clock and should report to the office for a tardy slip before proceeding
to their classroom.
Student Morning Supervision--All teacher duties
begin at 7:30 a.m. Therefore, if your child gets to school before
7:30 a.m. there will be no one on official morning duty and your child
will not be supervised.
After School Procedures--All parents are asked
to wait outside the building for their children. Teachers will dismiss
their classes at the different designated door entrances. Keep in mind
that school is in session until 3:00 p.m. and we need to keep all disruptions
at a minimum. Please make every effort to pick up your child or make arrangements
to have your child picked up promptly at 3:00 p.m. We do not have
after school supervision for children. Various teacher inservices and duties
have been scheduled after school.
Office Hours-- 7:30 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.
Absences--If your child is going to be absent,
please call the school office at Ph.# 971-4377 and leave a message for
your child's teacher that s/he will be absent. Upon returning to school,
you need to send a written note explaining why your child was absent in
order for the absence to be excused.
Dress Code--School rules exist so that the
learning atmosphere will not be disrupted by student dress and that the
health and safety of students shall not be jeopardized. Click here

Personal Items-- Students shall not bring items
from home not requested or required by the teacher in his/her educational
program. EXAMPLE: toys, games, radio, stickers,
playground equipment, skateboards, electronic games, CD players, etc.
Visitors--All parents must check in at the
office before going to their child's classroom. A VISITOR badge will be
issued to all parents and / or visitors to wear while on campus. VISITOR
badges must be returned to the office as you leave the school campus. This
will secure the safety of all students.
Parent Drop Off and Pick Up Lane--This driving
lane is located in the Teachers Parking Lot next to Galveston Street. It
is a drive through only to drop off or pick up your child. You can not
park and leave your car unattended. Also, please let your child out of
the car at the sidewalks spaced intermittently along the driveway instead
of in the dirt or next to bushes and trees. For parking, please use the
side streets or the east side parking spaces between Zavala and Thigpen
schools. Do not let your child out of the car on Galveston Street right
by the crosswalk. Please use the drop off lane only.
Bus Transportation--Bus #6 is for South Ware
Rd, Bentsen Rd and Catalina; Bus #22 is for 33rd Street and Business
83.
Bus Lane--Students are not to be dropped off
in the Bus Lane located by the pavillion on Galveston Street. Please use
the appropriate Parent Drop Off Lane.
Sales-- Students, parents and staff members
are not allowed to sell anything at school unless it is cleared by the
office.

Signing out Students before 3 pm--
School T-shirts--Fridays are designated as
School Spirit Day. We encourage you to purchase a school T-shirt for your
child to wear on Fridays.
School Parties--Teachers are limited to two
one hour parties during the year. Children's birthday parties are not allowed
on campus. If parents wish, cupcakes or cookies may be passed out to class
members the last 15 minutes of the school day to celebrate their child's
birthday. Please, do not send drinks, balloons or clowns to school to celebrate
your child's birthday.
